Michael Margolis, a former Apple developer who worked on the Apple TV, says the new user interface was thrown out by Steve Jobs five years ago.

"I implemented much of the AppleTV 2.0 UI years ago. The new home page UI makes me cry."

"Fun fact - those new designs were tossed out 5 years ago because SJ didn't like them. Now there is nobody to say "no" to bad design."

Hmmm... interesting. Michael, can you please post the screenshots or drawings from your original design from "years ago"? Although I have no doubt that you foresaw iOS 5, as a skeptic with a passion for evidence, I would love to compare the data myself... as perhaps would other readers. Thanks!!
