Microsoft's Leaked Plan to Catch Up to the App Store

ZDNet has obtained Microsoft's marketing playbook for catching up to the App Store. Windows Phone 7 recently reached over 70,000 applications but it still has a long way to go to reach the App Store's 550,000.
The slides from the U.S. marketing playbook mention a $10 million campaign over three years to "ringfence" companies like Pandora which aren't supporting Microsoft's platform. Microsoft also has plans to try to turn the app conversation from "quantity" to "quality," especially on the Android vs. Windows Phone front.
Microsoft is also planning to line up more promotional opportunities for top Windows Phone apps and wants to push towards mainstream pricing rather than premium pricing.
All those years that MS established the foothold in desktop is due to Linux failure to enter mainstream desktop.
In mobile computing, however, MS is the hopeless third-place loser. The winner, not necessarily in number og devices sold, would be one that has a solid and smooth mobile OS plus number of useful apps plus security.
Funny. Those aren;t even Microsoft's Corporate Templates - not sure there's any credibility here.
Also, Microsoft does have SKYPE available as a Beta while they integrate it into the platform.

How in the hell doesn't a Microsoft Windows phone have Skype? Didn't Microsoft buy Skype not to long ago? If a company like Microsoft can't even get an app they own in their market then they have problems. Good luck with that Plan Microsoft and catching up to the App Store or even Android market or whatever it's called now.
There is no official Skype app for windows phone at the moment. It's not even offered as an option on the Skype website or in the WP7 marketplace. There used to be one but they took it out because it was junk and didn't work. Guess there's one in beta though.
