Google is holding an event to reveal 'the next dimension of Google Maps' just before Apple's WWDC conference, reports 9to5Google. Apple is widely expected to announce it's dropping Google Maps in favor of its own in-house maps applications.
At this invitation-only press gathering, Brian McClendon, VP of Google Maps and Google Earth, will give you a behind-the-scenes look at Google Maps and share our vision. We'll also demo some of the newest technology and provide a sneak peek at upcoming features that will help people get where they want to go both physically and virtually. We hope to see you there.

Ah, a 'Feature War', this should be interesting. Google's trying to steal Apple's thunder by suggesting their duplicating what they've already done, while Apple's arguing that they've created their own, better service. Still, I think it's time that Apple cut Google's strings anyway. I'd like to see Apple do with Maps what they did with iMessage (i.e. allowed users to stop paying for all those message services).
