Apple reportedly plans to add Baidu as a search engine on iPhone in China, according to a Bloomberg report.

The agreement to add Baidu, China's largest search engine, to the lineup of Web tools on the iPhone could be announced as early as next week, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private. Apple is holding its annual developers conference in San Francisco starting June 11.

Baidu handles about 80 percent of China's search queries and its presence on the iPhone will help Apple gain a bigger toehold in the market. It will also be beneficial to Baidu helping the company boost their wireless advertising business.

I don't think it's so much "it will help Apple get a toehold in China" as it is the Chinese demanded Apple use Baidu, since they control the search results. However, this would mean that Apple is likely opening the iPhone/iPad up to alternate search engines.
