Microsoft has not announced pricing for its new Surface tablet; however, a new report from TNW claims they will start at $599 for the RT model and $999 for the Pro model.

Today, a source close to Microsoft has provided us with corroboration of rumored Microsoft Surface pricing, putting the Tegra 3 powered RT model at $599 retail and the Ivy Bridge packing Windows 8 Pro model at $999 retail.

A report from Bloomberg earlier today predicts the Surface will launch with Wi-Fi only. This means the RT model could match the price of the 32GB Wi-Fi iPad at the $599 price. While the RT device doesn't have a Retina Display it apparently will come with the touch keyboard cover.

Microsoft's 'about' page for the Surface definitely appears to indicate that, stating that "Surface comes with an integrated Kickstand and a revolutionary, 3mm thin, pressure sensitive cover that doubles as a fully functioning keyboard and trackpad."

Wow more powerful than the iPad and deserves to be that price? Microsoft has never produce any significant consumer electronics products, this is their 1st, and to price it at the level of Apple products is already a bit too much. To price it way above the iPad? Ok sure u anti Apple bulls. The Win8Pro yes, can function like a laptop, but for 1000, why not just get a real laptop. For the tegra chip version, its 600USD, thats more than the base model New iPad. Whats the most important thing in this Tegra version? Apps! and who has more? iPad! and finally the last but not least 2 things that matter most to ppl who use the tablet, display quality and battery life. Which 1 is better at those 2? iPad. Im not sure if this source is reliable about the prices, but if it is then MS is out of their mind, they still think that it is now 1999 when MS is still the top dawg out there. A friendly advice to MS as I am also a MS user; I still use the windows PC and laptop, dont be the next biggest tech loser of the year like Facebook. Watch and learn ppl mistakes when they overrated themselves. And to add for the fun of it, why did i say FB overrated themself? They rated their company at above 100billion USD with the IPO price (Google is currently worth 148 billion). So that means FB is 2/3 the value of Google, but looking at revenue, operating income, profit, and even growth FB is no where near being 1/10 of Google.

I dont think they do, but even if they do, they'll be like: its an iPad!!! DUMB!!

Well... Honestly, the only reason I havent bought an iPad yet, its because I think it is nothing more than an iPhone on steroids. I think there are very few things you cant do with an iPhone that you can do with an iPad. From what I've seen so far, Microsoft Surface seems to be what I have been waiting for. A tablet that will actually allow you to do things you cant do with an iPhone or with an iPad for that matter. It gives you the portability of a tablet and the ability to do EVERYTHING you can do with a full sized laptop. I hope when it comes out it is as good as it looks so far. You know whats gonna be pretty cool? to be able to jailbreak ALL OF YOUR IPADS with my Surface tablet!!!!!

The Surface that can do more than the iPad and iPhone is the one that is running Win8 Pro/ cost 1000USD. Lets put that to the side for now as its not out yet and is hard to compare or evaluate how effective and stable it can runs software. Lets look at the surface that is running the ARM processor. What is the difference compared to an iPad? The only difference is it is lower quality in terms of apps, display, and battery life. And more interestingly, it is priced above the iPad. I hope MS is not trying to commit suicide with this thing.

First off if the Surface Pro costs 1000, I'll buy it in a heart beat (assuming it works good enough and it doesnt crash more than my W7 laptop) considering I paid 1500 for my i7 vaio laptop 3 yrs ago , I would be willing to trade some power for portability. And why does every one keep talking about the quantity of apps? Apps are for bored people who have nothing better to do. Most people have shitty cheap games on their iphones, ipods and ipads, they have games that no decent gamer will ever play, but other than free games that help you kill time when youre bored at work, school or on the ride home what else are apps good for? Ask yourself this question and answer it honestly: Is there really and App that is useful and you CANT live without? Theres only a handful of apps that are actually useful and essential, but most of those apps are available on the 3 major platforms. I'm not gonna buy a tablet to fill it up with $1 dollar crapware, I will buy the tablet that will let me run illustrator, photoshop, indesign, etc, I will buy the tablet that can replace my 15lb laptop and it seems like the Surface is the tablet for me :D

Competing price my ass I would rather pay 599 and get me iPad with ratina display. Unless they sell it for 399 or lover I won't even touch it!
