Samsung has reportedly confirmed that it will immediately sue Apple if it releases an LTE iPhone, according to the KoreaTimes.
The site says Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee was briefed on Tuesday about the company's loss to Apple in court. "The chairman calmed down and slightly closed his eyes after he was briefed. But he didn't say anything further," said an executive.
The company's lawyers are making preparations to counter nearly every patent issue which nine jurors found in favor of Apple. In addition they are already planning to sue Apple over its next generation iPhone.
Samsung confirmed that it will immediately sue Apple if the latter releases products using advanced long-term evolution (LTE) mobile technology. LTE has been emerging as the top standard in the global mobile industry.

"Samsung, long recognized as a devices company, invested in network and infrastructure developments well ahead of the curve, and has emerged as a leading 4G patent holder in several key categories. Interestingly, Apple, one of Samsungs key competitors, holds few 4G patents, and currently licenses 4G capabilities for its new iPad. With Apples relatively lower patent protection in 4G, and Samsungs dominance, the marketplace may well shift."
"Currently, less than 50% of seminal 4G patents are held by the top 10 industry players. But other seminal 4G-LTE patents are held by hundreds of medium and smaller enterprises that are likely to assert their holdings once the industry sees widespread adoption of 4G. This includes research institutes in Asia and other non-practicing entities (NPEs)."

the iPad already had LTE in it right? So it's not like apple hasn't already established its use.
Samsung looking to sue over anything it can now.

VERY INTERESTING NEWS :
http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/20120831_33.html
Looks like Apple will only win (if we can call this a WIN... not single product ban yet and the business is still going on and is strong for Samsung) in California where they have probably good relationships with the lobbyist and ya know... anyway! Sad business world...

Why is the title of this article worded as a question? You're not asking us, are you? If you are, it should be 'Did Samsung say it will immediately sue Apple...'.

This is all speculative garbage. There is no way Samsung can sue apple for using LTE technology. The technology is not owned by Samsung, so on what grounds would they have to sue Apple?

robert.hue - August 31, 2012 at 5:56am
Yes, 12.2 % LTE patents are owned by Samsung and it's 3rd largest LTE patent owner. first one is nokia (18.9 %) and second is Qualcomm (12.5 %) and then Samsung (12.2 %).

robert.hue - August 31, 2012 at 5:42am
And let Apple use their technology even after Apple don't want them to use his. that's pretty funny fanboy.

Sue all you want Samsung...you'll still lose!

Apple is already protected by Qualcomm who sell LTE chip to Apple and license to client for legal usage. Otherwise no one will buy because other patent holders will sue.

READ THE ARTICLE. According to Thomson-Reuters, Nokia ranked top with 18.9 percent in terms of the NUMBER OF LTE PATENTS, followed by Qualcomm with 12.5 percent, Samsung Electronics with 12.2 percent and Ericsson with 11.6 percent.
I don't see Apple's name in there.
Who keeps saying the Koreans don't know how to innovate?

So if Qualcomm is making the LTE chips for the iphone, how can Samsung sue apple for using them?

Some people only read the title & excerpts then act like they know it all.

Let me get this right. Apple sued Samsung over the edge and the corners of the phone??? Well Samsung should sue apple for using Samsung tech inside yes? As ridiculous as the verdict sounds, I think Samsung will win

Jayzee - August 30, 2012 at 11:25pm
That is the stupidest thing I've heard on Samsung, they did not develop LTE technology, how are they planning on suing Apple for this, when they don't even own a patent?
0
Robert - August 31, 2012 at 5:28am
All that matters is who owns patent. Samsung have many LTE patents and that's why they will sue Apple. Simple enough. Isn't Apple doing same to other companies.

tdtran1025 - August 30, 2012 at 10:56pm
iPad3 already has LTE.
0
Robert - August 31, 2012 at 5:30am
Ans that's why Samsung will ask for royalty and damages caused by ipad 3. That's what Apple did in last case, they asked for royalty and damages from last 4-5 years.
0
Nick - August 30, 2012 at 10:42pm
How is apple putting LTE in their phone infringing on samsung? They already have it in their iPad and LTE is not a technology owned by Samsung.
0
Robert - August 31, 2012 at 5:33am
True. They do not completely own LTE technology but they invented many LTE features and made sure they parented those. That's why they can sue Apple and ask for iphone ban.
