The first benchmark results for the iPhone 5 have appeared in Geekbench Browser, reports MacRumors.
The device tested was an iPhone 5,2 running iOS 6 with a ARMv7 1.02 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.
The device scored 1601 in the test compared to an average of 629 for the iPhone 4S and 766 for the iPad 3. It also outperformed the Samsung Galaxy S III which scored 1560 in the test.
You can check out the full benchmark results at the link or in the images below...
Update: It appears that since our article there has been a large number of Galaxy S III owners submitting benchmarks to Geekbench. This has increased the average score for the device to 1628 from 1560. A better comparison should be available this weekend after release of iPhone 5 results in average benchmark results for the new device.

Well, we have a device not made of Samsung ass-cheese plastic, that runs "nearly" as fast as a device with twice the cores and ram (but doesn't need to because it doesn't get as bogged down as the sgs in the first place). Once Samsung copies it you might get a better UX, but until then enjoy your parents basement and action figures! Heck, they're made from the same crap (plastic).

The source site at primatelabs gives the nod to SGS3.

Well I dont think comparing benchmark makes a point here. Both require a different set of power. iOS is designed such a way to consume the specified requirements whereas. No one is going to make apps with compatibility above iPhone 5. iOS way of resource management is different and androids is different. Benchmark comparing to 4S is a valid reason and shows how much more we are going to experience.

Then iClarified should get rid of this post till next week. As it stands, Galaxy S III is outscoring iPhone 5 and not the other way around.

To be honest Android users dont use Geekbench coz who would pay for a paid benchmarking app when there are 100s of free better benchmarking app in Store.
My Galaxy Note I does 1345 on average, now thats so close to iPhone 5 that came 1 year later.
Benchmarks are useless.

It's all about preference. I own an iPhone, I have owned Android devices, a Blackberry and Windows phones, all of which I have use in a personal and business capacity. All I can say is, that android was the easier ans slicker OS for me to use on a day to day basis, they are all easy to integrate with corporate systems, although, ironically, the Blackberry was the worst. The iPhone is restricted, Android is more open, both are secure as the user's common sense allows, Blackberry's OS was like pulling your own teeth out without pain killers, the version of Windows phone I used is to out of date to really comment on, but I still had fewer issues with that than Blackberry. If you like iOS, great, if you like Android, also great, if you like Windows, let me know what it's like, if you like Blackberry, really?

Im curious why you believe the Android os is easier to integrate with a corporate environment. It does even have Cisco iPsec VPN capability unless that has recently changed.

Gareth - September 17, 2012 at 3:15pm
Android has a built-in VPN tool that allows you to connect to PPTP VPNS, L2TP VPNs, L2TP/IPSec PSK VPNs, and L2TP/IPSec CRT VPNs. There is a Citrix receiver app for Android and it's easy to integrate with corporate email servers.

Yes however it was a known issue in the past year that you could not get the droid to work well with the Cisco firewalls.

Gareth - September 17, 2012 at 3:24pm
Just need a newer version of the Cisco ASA software from well... Cisco.

lepaka - September 17, 2012 at 3:34pm
thats exactly what i love in iOS, i dont need to worry about driver/software/configurations/ updates, it just works, it is build for users, the same is with OSX, we dont waste our time configuring, downloading drivers, restarting computer or devices, i own a 4s i dont even remember if i ever did a restart on the phone, it just simple works :)

Mike - September 17, 2012 at 3:35pm
What would be the point in having a firewall to secure your network if you do not stay current with updates? I am a smartnet member and get updates on new versions of the ASA software when it is released. I update them once I verify there are no issues which is usually two weeks at the most. Software is not the problem...try again.
Sorry bud, read some polls. They will show that iOS is the choice for enterprise as it currently dominates:

The next time you are at a conference, take a look around and see how many Android tablets there are...
Game Over

Sorry, I am stupefied by your superior intellect and powers of reasoning. I bow down to you. You have convinced me stick with the iPhone, even-though I am not completely happy with it, it must be me that is faulty. Thank you for re-educating me.

You Sir, are welcome. Glad to be of assistance, just remember that to prove a point, you need to have facts to back it up. Much like the ones I provided to you. It takes a big man to admit that you are wrong. Im proud of you "sonny Jim". Have a great day and enjoy your iPhone

I've just ran the Geekbench on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and I got a score of 1742 :P

Gio - September 17, 2012 at 1:27pm
Well does not really matter if is that faster of Samsung or not, at the end you just have to make some calls, send few emails and brows internet. Think is that I rather use a well made product that took time and researches to be built (the iPhone), than something put together copying and using spare parts of very low quality that is sold for the same price (samsung). Would be like buying a Mustang or even a Corvette, yes powerfully cars, and saying that is better than a Ferrari or a Lamborghini because is fast too, they will still be cheap made cars!!!

Awww come on this is ridiculous, i've just saw the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 benchmarks on Geekbanch it has a score of "2060" While the iPhone5 has just "1601". Sorry Apple fanboys, but even if apple had 4 months more than Samsung, the iPhone5 still is not better than Galaxy SIII.
Here you have the link to see it yourself (remove the spaces) : "http: // browser. primatelabs. com/ geekbench2/ 1037297"

Given the pace of Smart-phone development, it is hardly surprising that a brand new phone can beat a phone that was created 4 months ago.
Also, benchmarks are all different, I suspect that you could find a benchmarking method that would produce results in favour of the S III.
I would not be surprised to see a phone next month that makes the iPhone 5 look as-though it's swimming through treacle.
I'm not very impressed with IOS6 so far, granted I have only had it installed for a day and a half, so I will give it a chance before completely ripping it apart.

Don't u know Android is CPU intensive, memory hungry, and not efficient at all? They can built on top of java (like) programing language which is not running native but interpret so it is much slower. Earlier version of android phones are all lagging and not smooth at all cuz they didnt have enough ram and CPU power.

Gareth - September 17, 2012 at 10:40am
I do know that Android is built on a Linux Kernel, it uses it's own runtime, java based, which is able to run multiple VM's with a low memory footprint very efficiently. The runtime libraries it uses are c/c++ and java among others. Android becomes less efficient when Vendors and Service providers add bloat-ware such as HTC-Sense, the answer is to remove that stuff. Please don't argue software architecture with a software engineer.

That's real fast!!!Samsung went 2nd place again...
I'm curious about the battery's performance though...

lepaka - September 17, 2012 at 7:34am
this is numbers, this is nearly absurd discussion. for me as a dummy user, i just want to have a smartphone, and i look what does the market give to me as choice that fits on my TOP Criterias for a selection. Design/Material Used/Feeling in The Hand/Operating System (Speed and securety)/ and capacity to storage music/ the rest is peanuts for neards ... for me without a question the winner is iPhone. is not a perfect device, but is still miles and miles away from the concurrence. it is the same, you can drice a Volkswagen confortably, but a Mercedes is a Mercedes :)
