Samsung Confirms It's Preparing a Smart Watch for Release

Samsung has confirmed that it's developing a smart watch, reports Bloomberg.

“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said during an interview in Seoul. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.” Lee wouldn't say what features that watch would have or how much it would cost.

Apple is also said to be working on a Smart Watch. The site previously reported that the company has 100 designers working on the project.

The features under consideration by the Cupertino, California-based company include letting users make calls, see the identity of incoming callers and check map coordinates, one of the people said. It would also house a pedometer for counting steps and sensors for monitoring health-related data, such as heart rates, this person said.

Last month, a collection of screenshots surfaced online which are allegedly from a Samsung smartwatch dubbed the GALAXY Altius. There haven't been any leaks from Apple yet but check out these impressive iWatch concepts.

Has everyone forgot about the SONY Ericcson Liveview watch as well? As long as it runs Android, its a failure. Then again I am not sure if the Live view ran android, or if it was just some proprietary software that connected with Android.

However, it will never run iOS. This really puts the ball in Apple's court though, depending on Apple's next response, may be the determining factor if I stay with Apple products or not. It is difficult to deny the significant impact Steve Job's passing has probably had on the company. I hope all this smoke about an iWatch is coming from a massive fire.

Forsure Apple will make very good watch and after that Shamesung will start copying and taking ideas so they will be successful like s devices, thats the DNA of Koreans.

What are you talking about? There is no apple watch- just a rumour that they may be considering one, after the success of the pebble. Samsung copied the basic model of the iPhone with their early smartphones, that's the start and end of it. Since then they have diversified and innovated in their own way, and have become incredibly successful doing so. The newer products are in no way copies of apples and in many ways improve on them. The only reason the majority stick with apple is because they are tied to iOS, not the device itself. We should give Samsung a lot of credit for what they have achieved.

What exactly are we giving credit for? Devices made from plastic. the OS does not even belong to Samsung, and I will not attempt to even give opinions right now on Android. However, build quality does not match Apple's by any means, and I am not talking about internal specs. There is many reasons why people stick with Apple, and yes, iOS is a big reason, but just one of many.

How can the iphone made of better quality when the home button, volume buttion, power button defected after two years of usage just like any other plastic phones. Just because it's made of glass or aluminum does not make it a better device. I had a blackberry, a htc windows phone, an iphone, s2. All have issue after a year and a half. where is the quality that people talk so much in the iphone? If Apple built such a quality phone, why are they only giving you one year of waranty? something to think about..

And what warranty is Samsung giving their devices. When something goes wrong with Samsung phones and you call they blame the network or the user. At least with Apple if it can be fixed they will and they offer an extended warranty for $100 which covers the phone 2 years and provides tech support and manufacture defects as well as accidental including water damage as well as broken phone caused by user.

@John: so you are saying you need to pay an additional $100 for extended warranty on a product that you insist is well made? why? also, I have not heard or read anywhere that Apple is confirming that they are making a watch.
