Check out this video that compares the boot speed of the iPhone 5 vs. iPhone 5c vs. iPhone 5s.

All three iPhones were freshly restored to iOS 7.0 with absolutely no data or accounts set up on the device.

The counter was started from the exact moment each device received USB signal and stopped as soon as the lockscreen was loaded.

So I guess I need to UPGRADE to the 5s

Mark - September 22, 2013 at 1:59am

I notice that the 5c and 5s dont have sim cards, the 5 does. that slows down as you can see the iphone 5 searching for signal. Maybe try it again all without simcards this test is rubbish...

mateen - September 22, 2013 at 7:31pm

Actually, none of the devices had a SIM card. We stopped the counter at the moment the lock screen was loaded. It took another second for the iPhone 5 to realize there was No SIM.

Ever since my ios 7 update my device has an extreme long problem updating the apps. It should not take 2 hours to download 4 apps. Apple is seriously losing its stabilities ....

Copperhead - September 21, 2013 at 5:57pm

Not to mention many of my apps icons are all grey.. And not the icon it's suppose to be.

AppleGuy299 - September 21, 2013 at 4:37pm

The Apples are blue. Also the 5 and 5c should be the same because they have basilica the same hardware and ios

uncletin - September 21, 2013 at 1:35pm

What song si that?

csns - September 21, 2013 at 8:10am

And a HTC One X boots in 10 seconds... And it has more to do with the OS than the HW. Just a fun fact.

Guest - September 21, 2013 at 8:03am

is it me or does the screen on 5s look crappier?

AppleGuy299 - September 21, 2013 at 4:37pm

It's just the angle of the camera.

Marz - September 21, 2013 at 7:31am

Nice conparison. What's the background music title?

Jimbo - September 21, 2013 at 6:57am

It could be that the 5 is on ios 7.0, which both the 5c and 5s are on ios 7.0.1.

JJ - September 21, 2013 at 12:29pm

That could also affect the accuracy lf the test! Nicely thought!

mateen - September 21, 2013 at 8:29pm

Actually, all devices are running iOS 7.0. No devices were upgraded to 7.0.1...

mateen - September 22, 2013 at 7:29pm

The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c both shipped with 7.0. 7.0.1 was made live for the 5s and 5c only, and we did not update either of those devices to make sure all of our devices were on the same firmware. For some reason, Apple is only hosting 7.0.1 for the iPhone 5s/5c and not 7.0

Yo - September 21, 2013 at 5:46am

Dude so many factors involves you cannot do an accurate test

Sinouhe - September 21, 2013 at 2:23am

I boot my phone every couple of months... I really needed these 9 secs ;)

JJ - September 21, 2013 at 2:01am

iphone 5 had Sim thats an extra boot process... Test is not accurate.

Manny - September 21, 2013 at 2:26am

I saw that too. Good eye!!

mateen - September 21, 2013 at 2:33am

None of the devices had a SIM card. We stopped the counter at the moment the lock screen was loaded. It took another second for the iPhone 5 to realize there was No SIM.

Dave - September 21, 2013 at 7:52am

The iPhone 5 seems to display "Searching" indicating that a sim is actually installed. Do you agree?

Careless - September 21, 2013 at 1:18am

All we care about is the jailbreak; I am not interested in the comparison. If I want an iPhone 5s I will buy it. I don't compare, so I don't care.

booty - September 21, 2013 at 4:11am

the why'd you click and read the article if you don't care? boot time shows post processing being done. faster boot time means faster components. nuff said.

BigJake - September 21, 2013 at 12:23am

I never turn my 5 off so why does this matter? Are trying to demonstrate processing speed? My 5 is fast enough and it will never have ios7 on it.

N-Slick - September 21, 2013 at 12:18am

My 5 boots faster than that lol, they must have them knockoff Chinese chargers.

m[o_0]m - September 21, 2013 at 12:11am

Is the brightness the same on all devices? Why the difference? 5c looks brighter.

Chris Kent - September 21, 2013 at 12:46am

It's the angle of the camera, and the lighting. It's just skewed.

iClarified - September 21, 2013 at 12:57am

The brightness is set to max on all three devices with auto-brightness set to off. The difference you are seeing is likely due to the background. We left the default wallpaper set for all three devices. Since the iPhone 5c is a white device, its default background is mainly white and thus brighter than the other two devices.
