Facebook has released a completely redesigned Messenger app for iOS 7 that let's you message any phone number.
Messenger is a fast, free and reliable way to keep in touch with anyone, wherever they are. It's just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Features: ● Get straight to your messages without opening Facebook. ● Bring your conversations to life with stickers. ● Send photos privately. ● Have group conversations and make plans on the go. ● Record voice messages. ● Share your location, so people know when you're nearby. ● Know when people have seen your messages. ● Make free calls, even to friends in other countries. ● See who else can be reached right away on Messenger. Plus, check out who's active on Facebook. ● Stay logged in so you never miss a message. ● Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
What's New In This Version: A completely new design, updated for IOS7.
Find more people to message: Now you can text your phone contacts, even if you're not Facebook friends. And it's easy to add new contacts—just enter a phone number.
You can download Facebook Messenger from the App Store for free.

Well, I love this app. Especially because it lets me write messages in landscape mode, which the official app can't. Don't know about this version yet, but at least the old one did and that was the main reason for using it.

Is "any phone number" mean that it sends regular SMS to contacts without the app or even non-smartphones?

Ok, I mostly use Hangouts, but some of these features are sorely missed in the Hangouts app!

Those stickers! They are going after Line.
I'd never imagine myself saying this...but it was only a few years ago when Asian software was nothing more than ripoffs of their American counterparts, yet there is no denying that Line, Kakao, and WeChat are better and more holistic than Facebook messenger or Whatsapp.
