UPDATE***: December 07, 2007. I have updated this tutorial to no longer require downgrading to 1.0.2. This should save a bit of time and also removes the need to use Fugu.

These are instructions are on how to unlock a 1.1.1 iPhone or an iPhone that has been upgraded to 1.1.2 firmware. These instructions do not work for a 1.1.2 iPhone new from the store.

If your firmware is 1.1.1 please use iTunes to restore to latest firmware(1.1.2) before starting this tutorial! You need to do this otherwise the unlocker used in this tutorial won't work. Also your phone needs to be virginized if you have ever unlocked it before.

DOWNGRADE TO 1.1.1
Step One
For this you will need iNdependance 1.3 beta, iTunes 7.5, iPhone Firmware 1.1.1, and MobileDevice 7.4.2 Framework.
- Update iTunes to get the latest version.
- Download iNdependance from here: here
- Download MobileDevice 7.4.2 Framework from: here
- Download iPhone Firmware 1.1.1 from: here

Step Two
Double click iNdependence_v1.3_beta2.dmg to mount the disk image. Drag the iNdependence application to your Applications folder.

Step Three
Double click the MobileDevice 7.4.2 Framework zip file that you downloaded. This will extract a folder called "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework".

Step Four
Run the "iNdependence MobDev Tool" application which was included when you downloaded iNdependence.

An alert will appear indicating that the tool can't be run with iTunes 7.5. Click the Ok button.

Another popup will appear asking you to select the "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework" folder. Navigate to where you saved the folder and select it. Then click the Open button.

Another popup window will appear asking you to select the iNdependence Application. Navigate to your applications folder then select the iNdependence Application. Click Open to continue.

A dialog box will appearing letting you know that you have success! Click the Ok button to finish.

Step Five
Connect your iPhone to your Mac. Press and hold Home and Power button of your iPhone at the same time. Once the screen turns black, release the power button but keep on holding the Home button until Apple logo changes to the restore screen.

Step Six
iTunes will then detect an iPhone in restore mode.

Hold down the Option key and click Restore.

A dialog window will appear asking you to select the firmware to restore to. Select the 1.1.1 firmware we downloaded earlier (iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw)

At the end of the restore you will get Error 1015. This is okay. Simply click the Ok button.

Step Seven
Press and hold Home and Power button of your iPhone at the same time. Once the screen turns black, release the power button but keep on holding the Home button until Apple logo changes to the restore screen.

Step Eight
iTunes will then again detect an iPhone in restore mode.

Step Nine
Eject your iPhone and Quit iTunes.

Step Ten
Open iNdependance by double clicking its icon in Applications.

Step Eleven
iNdependence will after a short time take your iPhone out of recovery mode. If you get an error or it doesn't seem to be working then restart the iPhone and try it again. You might also try to disconnect the usb cable and plug it back in.

Once it is successfully out of DFU mode you will see the Activate Phone screen displayed on your iPhone.

UPGRADE TO 1.1.2
- Download the Jailbreak 1.1.2 package from: here.
- Download the 1.1.2 Firmware from: here

At this point normally we would have installed OktoPrep from Installer (Tweaks 1.1.1 Category). The new jailbreakme.com is supposed to do this for you now. I've heard a couple reports of the site not doing it so I've left this in the tutorial for now!

Step One
Connect the iPhone to your Mac. Then launch iTunes and select the iPhone.

Hold down the Option key and click the Update button to update your iPhone to 1.1.2.

A dialog window will appear asking you to select the firmware to restore to. Select the 1.1.2 firmware we downloaded earlier (iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw)

Quit iTunes once the update is complete.

Step Two
Double click the 1.1.2-jailbreak.zip file you downloaded to extract it. Double click jailbreak.jar to begin the jailbreak process.

Select the checkbox to install SSH. You can leave the password as alpine or change it to whatever you want.

Step Three
Once the Done popup window appears reboot your device by holding the power button down for 3 seconds and moving the slider that appears to the right. Press the power button again to turn it back on.

Wait about a minute and the iPhone will boot then reboot by itself a second time.

YAY :) you should now have an activated, jailbreaked, unlocked iPhone!

NOTES:
I had to piece together many of these screenshots because I no longer have an iPhone with the old bootloader. In the steps to add iClarified as a source in Installer you will notice I am connected to Fido. In your case you will not have a connection so please ignore that. Some screenshots have been located from around the net. Most notably I'd like to thank Mark from HacktheiPhone for many.

THANKS:
Well, I also really need to thank all the developers who have been working like crazy to make this tutorial even possible. Im really not even sure who all I have to name but thanks to everyone! iPhone Dev Team, iNdependence Creator (operator), iPhone Elite Dev Team, ...

I had the same problem as JaMa84. After recovering back to 1.1.1 and starting over and getting the same problem, I decided on a whim to launch iNdependence to see if it could fix it. I ran it and let it sit (like before), and eventually it popped up a box that said that 1.1.2 was unsupported. BUT, the iPhone went back to the \"Slide to unlock\" screen, iTunes claimed it was perfectly fine at 1.1.2, and installer was there and everything was happy. I\'m now moving on to the 1.1.3 update.

Добрый день. Модем Мегафон E173u-1. Дело в том, что Huawey Modem Unlocker v.1.1 пишет 8:57:36 > Searching for modem FOUND! (COM25)8:57:46 > Reading info OK!8:57:46 > MODEL: E1738:57:46 > IMEI: 8674550008269318:57:50 > Reading lock status OK! NOT LOCKED!8:57:50 > CHECK LOCK END!8:57:50 > Ready То есть я так понял что NOT LOCKED значит что модем не заблокирован. При вводе unclok кода ^ то же самое. При использовании другой симки пишет Могут быть использованы только определенные SIM\USIM карты Прошил как здесь сказано. ничего не помогает. Перепробывал кучу способов с разных сайтов результата 0. помогите плиз.

Hello I have followed the instructions, but at the last step it failed. The iPhone wouldn\'t reboot, but jumped into recovery mode. iTunes was stopped, but after a while I started iTunes to see what was going on and I got on the screen that I had to activate my iPhone with AT&T. I tried to retry and reset but nothing works! PLEASE can someone help me! Greetz
