Tim Cook Rejects Plan to Open More Stores on Thanksgiving so Employees Can Be With Family

Posted November 23, 2013 at 6:00pm by iClarified
Apple CEO Tim Cook has vetoed plans by the company's Market Directors to open additional stores on Thanksgiving Day, according to ifoAppleStore.

Last year, only the tourist-heavy Fifth Ave (New York), Royal Hawaiian (Hi.), Forum Shops (Las Vegas) stores were open on Thanksgiving.

This year Apple's retail Market Directors had planned to open at least ten stores on Thanksgiving, believing the company was missing out on substantial holiday sales. However, Tim Cook has overruled that plan.

On Wednesday morning over the objections of the Market Directors, Apple CEO Tim Cook cancelled the plan to keep several stores open on Thanksgiving. Cook’s specific objection was that it’s important for Apple retail employees to be with their families on the holiday. On the other hand, the Market Directors were reportedly motivated by large potential holiday-quarter bonuses based on performance targets, adding to their $400,000 salaries. The last calendar quarter at Apple retail is always the busiest and generates the most revenue, leading to the largest bonuses.

Apple is still opening many of its retail locations early on Black Friday. We'll post the company's deals as soon as they go live. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

He doesn't have the charisma or innovation jobs had, but this says a lot about him as a person.

I underestimated Tim Cook in the beginning, but with the good deed he is doing for his employee, he earn my respect for him. I wish that other CEO would follow his footstep and stop being greedy. Let's put family first especially this upcoming holidays. Good job Mr. Cook! And also thank you for keeping up Apple going. I am sure replacing Steve Jobs is a difficult one and you have done a wonderful job so far.

How about you read that comment again. He wasn't calling Tim cook greedy. He was calling other CEOs greedy. Learn how to read and comprehend before you go running your mouth.

You may not like him, but for sure he's a nicer guy than Jobs was.

I like him as much as Jobs, he kept the company going for him like a backup, he works like Jobs because iPhone done even more since the 5 and now a 1 pound full sized tablet (iPad Air) and all day battery powered and energy efficent macbooks but mostly the Mac Pro. Then soon in 2016, Jobs will get the Campus he has been planning and Apple does everything best for him!
