Apple has blocked the IPCC tethering hack used to activate iPhone tethering on the AT&T network, according to a TUAW report.
TUAW has learned that, with the release of iPhone OS 3.1 beta 2, tethering via the IPCC hack no longer works for AT&T customers. While iPhone OS 3.0 provides support for tethering, AT&T has yet to officially support it. As a workaround to obtain tethering (as well as MMS for some), some users have modified their carrier files (IPCC). As of 3.1 beta 2, this no longer works.
Those who need tethering may want to avoid the 3.1 update when it becomes available.

No, its not! My tethering works fine. On ATT in US, iPhone 3GS running 3.1beta.

Did you update to the new 3.1 beta 2? It is apparently only on the second release of the 3.1 software that it will block the tethering.
If all else fails, there is always PDANet since I would imagine that all of you guys have your iPhone's jailbroken.

Lol that doesn' suprise me at all... I live with tethering (20 GIGS this month!) There's no way i'm gonna update now.

Yes im on att. ive been using tethering for a couple months now cuz i dont have internet at home. and why pay more if i already have fast internet right? but no ive had no additional charges to my account. but i cnat say that you wont. but if youre gonna do it do it soon before the hack doesn't work anymore!

I thought there was a 5GB on carriers "unlimited" internet (I know, stupid). If they haven't caught you it's just a matter of time.

I think unlimited by definition have no limit (i.e. 5gb or any)
That is why AT&T asked to disable it, otherwise they have network issues

Thanks what i thought to. well i looked into it cuz i got freaked out and didnt want to have to pay a lot of money and there supposedly is a 5 gig "soft cap". this means they they dont want us to go over 5 gigs but we can. suposedly when someone goes over 5 gigs month after onth att calls them and "reviews their plan/contract and finds ways to limit the usage... good oll att

When I called and Complained about the Bill, I was told my iPhone Data Plan (This new one because I upgraded from 2G--3GS) Tethering and MMS was included as I also have 1500 Text. THIS is what the plan says, and I was told UNLIMITED DATA in the iPHone Plan:
Data Plan for iPhone includes unlimited data in the U.S. Access rich HTML email and desktop-level web browsing, as well as Visual Voicemail to listen to voicemail messages in any order you choose.
Please note: AT&T is Apple's exclusive carrier partner for iPhone in the United States. An eligible data plan for iPhone is required. This data plan covers data usage in the United States and does not cover international data usage and charges. If AT&T determines that you are using an iPhone on your account without an eligible data plan, AT&T reserves the right to add an eligible data plan to your account and bill you the appropriate monthly fee.

Maybe if more people constantly start tethering on the 3.0 software update, and get ridiculous amount of data usage. At&t might actually think twice about keeping their 30$/ month unlimited data plan. You think they might consider dropping the price as well as the limit of data you can use per month? Sounds like a plan to me. I too have been tethering this month and i've gone up to 10 gigs in the last 15 days.

I remember hearing that someone called att and was told unlimited data plan meant they have Unlimited ACCESS to the internet. In other words they can go online anytime they have signal and that is what is unlimited.
which is pure bull of course.
