If Your iPad Battery Dies, Apple Will Replace Entire Device for $99

If your iPad battery requires replacement Apple won't just replace the battery but instead will replace the entire device for $99.

According to a recently posted FAQ, "If your iPad requires service due to the battery's diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee."

The service costs $99, plus $6.95 shipping. The total cost is $105.95 per unit.
All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax.

Apple has said they won't transfer your existing data over to the new device.

"You will receive a replacement iPad that will not contain any of your personal data. Before you submit your iPad for service, it is important to sync your iPad with iTunes to back up your contacts, calendars, email account settings, bookmarks, apps, etc. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information when servicing your iPad."

Apple expects to provide you with the replacement device within approximately one week from the time you send your iPad in for service.

I think Anon hit the nail on the head, I completely agree.. It is extremely wasteful.. I hope the iPad is made of recyclable parts.. Not that I'll be buying one, I still think it is a half ass attempt at what a tablet is supposed to be.

exactly...for a company that touts their "green" machines, this is very ironic.

It should definitely be covered under an apple care protection plan. Isn't a better failure THEIR fault?

if Apple comes out with a program like that before they even have delivered the 1st iPad, it means that there is serious trouble with the battery per se. What a shame.

Yeah that's cool except it will force updates on anybody that needs a battery replacement... If there's a jailbreak it'll surely be updated and gone after they replace the battery. No Thanks
