Realtime Computer Vision Techniques

JPY Consulting has announced that TripCam 1.0 for iPhone/iPod touch is available on the Apple App Store. TripCam is one of the first iOS apps (maybe the first one on non jailbroken devices) that features realtime computer vision techniques in order to show the world seen from the eyes of a robot.

Under its very simple appearance, TripCam features quite a complex technology that will be the basis for future apps from JPY Consulting Ltd. The app shows only the contours of the image the camera is capturing, all in realtime. Just tap on the image and a photo is taken. It has a retro black and white style that will amuse those who used computers in the early 80s.

"TripCam started as one of my experiments. I was looking into computer vision technologies and augmented reality and I developed this example that showed the contours in realtime" says Alessandro, the main iPhone developer at JPY Consulting. "One evening I was celebrating a friend's newly found job here in London. He is a grid computing guru, so he knows a lot about technology. I showed him the app and he immediately said 'That's so cool. Can you install it on my iPhone?' and he went to show it to all his other friends. After a few seconds, everyone wanted to play with it and got excited about it. Everyone wanted it. So I added the take picture feature and iAd and sent it to Apple for approval."

Pricing and Availability:
TripCam 1.0 will be free for the launch period. It is supported by iAd. It is available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photography category.
