Apple's new Messages app for Mac contains Retina Display artwork hinting at that upcoming Macs could feature new high resolution displays.

A look at some of the resources from Apple's new Messages app shows several graphics that come in multi-part TIFFs that include regular and double resolution versions. With the release of Mac OS X Lion a single check box enabled "HiDPI" display mode appeared. With this mode enabled, everything is drawn with twice as many pixels as its non-HiDPI equivalent. An upcoming MacBook Pro with 2880x1800 display resolution will reportedly use this mode for Retina Display graphics.
