Apple is reportedly working on a holiday update to the new iPad which will feature just one backlight module and a IGZO display, according to DigiTimes. The current model has LED backlight modules.

The extra LED is reportedly adding to overheating and that using one LED will help solve overheating issues since more backlights along with more power to heat those backlights is causing overheating. Sources noted that the one LED backlight module, however, will not affect luminosity and clarity of Apple's Retina Display.

The site is also saying the battery will be improved allowing for a slight reduction in thickness.

Finally, the updated iPad is said to feature a IGZO display panel.

The upgraded iPad is also said to feature indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panel technology to allow the device to feature an even thinner design and longer battery life, reported the Chinese-language Apple Daily, citing sources from market watchers. The Apple Daily also said that panel supply will be shifted from Samsung to Sharp.

The new model is expected around the holiday season.
