Skype has started testing a new video messaging feature that lets users send a short video clip message to friends when they aren't available for live chat, reports AllThingsD.

The Microsoft-owned service had said the feature is coming. Starting Friday, those with the latest version of Skype for either Mac, Android or iOS can send the messages (users of Skype on other platforms can still receive video messages.)

The clips can be up to three minutes long but the feature can only be accessed by some users in a handful of countries that includes the U.S. and U.K. The company recently released Skype 6.2 for Mac which brought new features including eGifting and the ability to send one-way SMS without mobile number verification but the video messaging feature wasn't mentioned.
