An Apple job posting first spotted by 9to5mac for an iOS keyboard and text engineer hints at further support for other languages and scripts.

Currently iOS supports 50 languages and different script systems across the iOS keyboard system but that number could change as Apple wants to add even more engineers as it looks to "work closely with international teams and native speakers to accommodate all the world’s script systems."

While iOS supports 50 languages some languages like Farsi (Persian), Maltese, and Afrikaans are still missing and unsupported.

The iOS keyboard and text team is looking for an excellent software engineer to join our team. The iPhone and iPad keyboards revolutionized the way that people use their mobile devices to communicate, and we're only getting started! This is a high visibility, high impact position that requires a breadth of knowledge and deep understanding of OS fundamentals.

As an engineer on the keyboard and text team, you will be working at all levels of the iOS platform: from low-level algorithm work and framework development to high-level UI programming and user interaction refinement. The keyboard architecture is constantly evolving as we continue to innovate and introduce breakthrough text input mechanisms for millions of users worldwide.

To continue to delight our global audience, we work closely with international teams and native speakers to accommodate all the world's script systems, so solid collaborative skills are a must. Fluency in a non-English language or familiarity with internationalization issues is a big plus!

iOS 7 did improve Chinese input handwriting recognition and previous iOS updates have also improved keyboard support.
