Apple Reportedly Shifting Some iMac Production to Pegatron

Digitimes is reporting that Apple is looking to shift some of its iMac orders from Quanta Computer to Pegatron technology, as "upstream supply chain players revealing they sent iMac components to Pegatron recently." Quanta currently manufactures some of Apple's Mac lineup, while Pegatron helps supply a third of iPhones and iPads.

In order to become a qualified Apple supplier, sources reveal there are many evaluations put in place and a pilot production. The factories must be isolated from other factories and mass production could take more than a year to usually start.

However, this is not the first time rumors of Pegatron landing orders for iMacs have circulated, a similar rumor was also around in the IT market in 2010, and in 2012, there were also rumors about Pegatron landing MacBook Air orders. Although both rumors never solidified, the rise of new rumors indicates that competition to enter Apple's supply chain remains fierce.

Recently, Pegatron has been under fire for poor working conditions by Chines labor groups.
