The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch rumored for unveiling on September 4th will reportedly feature a 2.5-inch display (3-inches diagonally including case), a dual core processor, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, built-in speakers, a camera, and an accelerometer, reports GigaOm.

The site says the information they've heard lines up with previous reports from SamMobile which suggested that the smartwatch would utilize a Samsung Exynos 4212 dual core 1.5GHz with Mali-400 MP4 GPU and a 320 x 320 resolution display.

We are told the watch has a camera that is integrated into the strap and even has tiny speakers in the clasp of the watch, plus built-in NFC to allow for bump-to-sync and authenticate. The watch uses Bluetooth 4.0 LE to connect with smartphones for connectivity. In addition, the watch has a built-in accelerometer that makes it possible to switch it on when it is moved up towards the eye. It could be a great way to wake the watch and also the apps and manage battery power. The watch screen will support the usual touch, swipe and select type gestures but will likely not have text-input, which makes perfect sense given the sheer size of the small screen.

The watch is said to feature enough sensors to compete with fitness bands such as the Nike+ Fuelband.

Samsung has seeded developers with watches based on Android 4.1 and 4.2; however, there is tight integration between the watch and the phones and tablets it pairs with. A Samsung watch manager app on the phone is used to manage the connection between devices. Apparently, a proprietary protocol is being used over Bluetooth LE which means you will need a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet to use the watch.
