Amazon has reportedly tested its own wireless network in Cupertino, California using spectrum controlled by Globalstar Inc, reports Bloomberg. It's believed that Amazon is investigating the possibility of launching a wireless network that customers could use to connect their devices to the Internet.

The trial underlines how Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, is moving beyond being a Web destination and hardware maker and digging deeper into the underlying technology for how people connect to the Internet. Amazon and Globalstar refused to comment on the report. Shares of Globalstar increased 9.6% by 2:00pm EST.

Notably, Google is also investing in its own network by bidding for wireless spectrum and building broadband networks. Recently, the company signed a deal with Starbucks to provide its wireless Internet access.
