Verizon Modifies Its Edge Device Upgrade Program to Allow Upgrades After 30 Days

Verizon has modified its Edge payment and early upgrade plan to let customers upgrade after 30 days, instead of 6 months, reports CNET. The change comes after T-Mobile announced that it would pay off early termination fees for customers looking to switch from other carriers. With an eligible phone trade-in, the total value of the offer to switch to T-Mobile could be as high as $650 per line.

Prepaid accounts are not eligible for Verizon Edge and new customers must pass credit checks, says the report.

A spokesman for Verizon said "this is currently a promotion but we have not set an end date. It is in response to our customer's requests regarding this popular payment and upgrade plan.....While it is important to understand what our competitors are doing, Verizon makes decisions based on what's best for both our customers and business."
