The booming tech industry has created huge demand for housing in the San Francisco Bay Area, driving up housing costs and leading to long commutes. Meanwhile, tech workers flock to San Francisco and Oakland, seeking the high-density urban environment that Silicon Valley lacks. What might it look like if tech campuses replaced their parking lots and provided all the necessary housing on-site?
Recently, there have been protests from upset San Francisco residents that tech companies are driving up the cost of living to unmanageable levels.
The demonstrators were upset that tech companies are using city bus stops "without permission", driving up rent costs along those routes, not contributing funds to support public infrastructure, and causing the evictions of San Francisco residents who can no longer afford rent.
