Apple has received final approval for its new flagship store in San Francisco's Union Square, reports Re/code. The San Francisco Planning Commission and the city’s Board of Supervisors gave their final endorsements yesterday.

“We are thrilled that the city of San Francisco has given its final approval to begin work on our new store and public plaza, which will make a wonderful addition to Union Square and create hundreds of local jobs,” Apple spokeswoman Amy Bessette told Re/code. “Our Stockton Street store has been incredibly popular, welcoming over 13 million customers since it opened nine years ago, and we look forward to making a new home on Union Square.”

The store which is located at the corner of Stockton and Post on Union Square was initially drew complaints because it was set to destroy a historic fountain. As a result, Apple modified its design to relocate the fountain. It also added an 8-foot wide glass window that will be notched into the side wall from the ground to the roof. The most recent renders revealed two massive glass sliding doors over 44 feet tall and 23 feet wide

It's believed that Apple will begin construction on the store this summer.
