Amazon to Ship Apple TV Competitor in April?

Amazon will begin shipping a video streaming device in early April that will compete with the Apple TV, reports the WSJ. The device will also be sold by Best Buy and Staples.

The Amazon device will carry a variety of apps available on Roku Inc. and Apple Inc. set-top boxes and run on a version of Google Inc.'s Android software, like Amazon's tablet computers, these people said. Roku's most popular apps include video services Netflix and Hulu Plus and music service Pandora, as well as Amazon's own video-streaming service.

Pricing is unclear; however, there are reportedly incentives for Amazon Prime members.

Just last week Amazon announced to customers that it was increasing the yearly price of the Amazon Prime program from $79 to $99. It's rumored that the company plans on introducing a streaming music service as well.
