New York Times Announces Lower-Priced Curated NYT Now App Launching April 2nd

The New York Times announced two new subscription plans on Wednesday, including NYT Now, a lower-priced app curated for a mobile audience. The other plan called Times Premier provides access to content like Times Insider, a new feature that will aim to give readers a behind-the-scenes look at the newspaper and its journalism.

Both NYT Now and Times Premier will launch on April 2nd.

Denise Warren, EVP for Digital Products and Services, says that two additional apps - one focused on food, the other on opinion pieces — will be introduced this summer.

The apps are part of a strategy to attract readers wanting more than the 10 free articles a month available on The Times’s website but who might not want to pay for the full news report. “We see it as three options,” she said. “Essential, which is NYT Now; extensive, which is the core subscription package; and exclusive, which is the premier plan.”

NYT Now will cost $8 per month, less than the $45 for a full digital subscription with Times Premier. It will offer a blend of articles from The Times and from other websites, as well as a morning briefing and an evening briefing summarizing the news.

We'll let you know when the new apps are available. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
