Nisarg Swaminarayan, 29, was eating dinner near his home in New Jersey when Dropcam's app notified him that the sliding door at his home had been opened. Swaminarayan checked his Dropcam security system cameras via an iPhone and watched as a burglar broke into his home and stole his camera equipment.
Although the room was pitch-black, Dropcam cameras have night-vision which allowed Swaminarayan to see the burglar's every move.
Swaminarayan said he watched as the invader grabbed his electronic equipment, so he tapped into one of the camera’s loudspeakers and screamed. “I simply told him, ‘I can see you, please, leave my home,’” he recalled.
The burglar was scared away and thanks to the saved camera footage, authorities were able to quickly track down Oliver Alavez-Luengas, 22, who is being held in a New Jersey jail on $25,000 bail.
