Walter Isaacson, the author of the Steve Jobs biography says that the Apple co-founder would have approved of the $3 Billion acquisition Apple formally announced Wednesday.

Isaacson argued that Steve Jobs and Jimmy Iovine shared a love of music, and Jobs would have loved to add Beats' 'cool' factor to the company. "It feels like part of the DNA," he told CNBC on Friday in an interview.

"Steve was all about music," Isaacson said. "He and Jimmy Iovine totally bonded on this. There was a long, long period where Jimmy Iovine was riding shotgun with Steve, to get music companies to go ahead and be part of this iTunes store and the whole Apple ecosystem."

Isaacson also agreed that Tim Cook "is bringing in talented people who have an artistic sensibility," with hires like Angela Ahrendts.

"Steve was the one who brought the art, the beauty—the liberal arts as he would say—to the technology," Isaacson claimed.
