Apple to Shut Down Beats Music?

Apple is reportedly planning to shut down the Beats Music streaming service, according to a TechCrunch report citing five sources.

Apple will discontinue the streaming music service Beats Music it acquired in May, according to five sources, including several prominent employees at Apple and Beats. Many engineers from Beats Music have already been moved off the product and onto other projects at Apple, including iTunes. It’s not clear when exactly Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre’s music service will be shut down or what Apple will do with streaming, but every source with knowledge of the situation that we talked to agreed Apple plans to sunset the Beats Music brand.

TechCrunch believes the fact that Beats Music did not come pre-installed on any of the new iPhones and was barely mentioned during the September keynote should have been a red flag. However, the service was just added to the Apple TV.

If you're a subscriber, let us know what you think of the service in the comments. Should Apple drop it? Integrate it into iTunes?

UPDATE:
Tom Neumayr, Apple’s PR rep, says the TechCrunch story is “not true” but wouldn’t go beyond that, reports Re/code. The site spoke with its sources who say that Apple may modify the service over time and one of those changes could involve changing the 'Beats Music' brand.
