Apple CEO Tim Cook met with Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) this week to discuss the senator's technology agenda, reports The Hill.

Hatch has been a supporter of tech-focused policy issues in Congress and has tried to prioritize a number of items ahead of next year’s GOP takeover of the Senate.

“As chairman of the Republican High-Tech Task Force, Sen. Hatch plans to focus on fostering an environment that encourages research and innovation,” his office said late on Tuesday evening.

One of the things Hatch plans to address is patent "trolls" which are said to cost the economy $60 billion annually. The Senator has also pushed for an update to a 1986 law that lets police search your email with a warrant if the messages are older than 180 days and changes to DOJ rules for obtaining foreign evidence.

Hatch also plans to encourage companies to share more details about cyber threats by reducing their liability, protect trade secrets, and remove some tax burdens.
