China's Internet Minister Meets With Tim Cook in the U.S.

Lu Wei, minister of the Cyberspace Administration of China, visited with the CEOs of Facebook, Apple, and Amazon during a recent visit to the U.S., reports China.com.cn.

Wei reportedly visited Apple CEO Tim Cook to 'ensure information security and privacy of users in China'.

Lu Wei during a meeting with Apple CEO Cook pointed out that China is the largest foreign market for US Internet companies, the new Apple device users, half from China. He said China is willing to open technology products market, but the bottom line is any technology product must safeguard national security and ensure information security and privacy of users.

Cook apparently responded promising that Apple will not provide any information to a third party and will not "open the back door."

According to the report, Lu Wei also stressed that before new tech products reach the Chinese market they must go through the network security network security officer's assessment of China.

During the visit, Cook also showed off the Apple Watch to Wei.
