Despite being on Apple's list of committed partners, Toyota says it currently has no plans to support CarPlay in the U.S., reports the New York Times.

John Hanson, the national manager of Toyota’s advanced technology communications, said while the company talked frequently with both Google and Apple, it currently had no plans to adopt Android Auto or CarPlay in the United States.

“We may all eventually wind up there, but right now we prefer to use our in-house proprietary platforms for those kinds of functions,” Mr. Hanson said.

The announcement is likely to disappoint many iOS and Android users; however, Toyota may not be able to withstand market pressure for long. Many other manufacturers including GM, Volkswagon, Hyundai, Audi, and others have already begun to release vehicles with CarPlay support. Apple and Google are likely to improve their in-vehicle software far faster than vehicle manufacturers can improve their infotainment systems. It may not be long until their already cumbersome systems fall further behind and consumers begin to demand a system that works with their mobile devices of choice.
