Google has announced that AMBER alerts, as redistributed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, will be integrated into its Waze navigation app starting today.

The AMBER alert program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies and the wireless industry that aims to galvanize communities in the search for and the safe recovery of missing children. As of this writing, AMBER alerts have helped safely recover 728 children. We are proud to help expand the AMBER alerts program’s reach and eager to see the benefit Wazers can provide in making communities safer places.

Here's how it works:
● We will scan the U.S. for AMBER alerts every 10 minutes.
● If there is a live AMBER alert, we will display it to Wazers in the relevant geographic area.
● Alerts will only be displayed when Wazers' vehicles have been completely stopped for 10 seconds and will only appear once per week per individual alert.
● Alerts will disappear when Wazers tap the map or once the vehicle starts moving again.

Each AMBER alert will contain as much information as possible. Alerts may contain a photo of the child as well as the model, make and license plate of a missing vehicle the child may be traveling in. Clicking "More Information" will open a web browser where Wazers can obtain more information on the missing child.

You can download Waze from the App Store for free.
