Google today announced some backend changes to the Google Maps app that will provide an enhanced transit experience for users.

First, Google notes that 'relevant journeys' are handily arranged and summarized in the Google Maps, so you can easily tell how long you'll be waiting and what your options are if you miss the bus or metro.

Starting today in Google Maps, relevant journeys are handily arranged and summarized in the app—so it’s easy to know at a glance how long you’ll be waiting and what your other options are if you just miss that bus.

Google is also making it easier to get real-time transit info in the U.K., Netherlands, Budapest, Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle by working with 25 new partners. The real-time transit info provided in those regions gives live arrival times for buses, metros and subway systems. Google Maps will even alert of you a cancelled route.

As Apple readies transit directions in iOS 9, Google notes it has provided public transit information since 2007 (when the original iPhone launched) in over 18,000+ cities and towns across 64 countries. No update is required to receive these new changes, but you can download the Google Maps App from here if you'd like.
