France has released 'SAIP', a terror alert app, ahead of the 2016 UEFA European Championship football tournament. The app provides alerts and information in the case of a major event or crisis using geolocation.

SAIP, meaning "système d’alerte et d’information des populations" (system to alert and inform populations) is the official government mobile alert application from the Ministry of the Interior for smartphones running iOS.

This free application allows users to receive alerts in the case of exceptional events (nuclear, hazardous materials, and hydraulic structure failure alerts, etc.) that may result from an attack within a specified geographical zone, providing that the user’s geolocation settings are activated and that the application is active.

The SAIP mobile application is available in French and English, and adds to the existing system for alerting and informing populations (sirens, pre-formatted radio messages, etc.).

Features:
The alert activates when the user is in, or enters, an at-risk zone, without any user information being sent, even when geolocation settings are activated.

● The user can record up to 8 geographical zones (postcodes, cities) and receive notifications if an event occurs in one of these locations.
● The application also provides advice on how to act and instructions to follow depending on the type of alert ("how to react").
● It also allows users to relay current alerts on social networks via their personal accounts.

You can download SAIP from the App Store for free.
