Apple has donated 7 million yuan (~$1 million USD) to help China with the worst flood it has seen in years.

The company donated the money to the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), a non-governmental organization. Apple is the first U.S. company to donate to the CFPA to help with this year's flood.

“Our thoughts are with all those devastated by the flooding along the Yangtze River,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a post on Weibo.

Heavy rainfull began across southern China in mid-June triggering deadly floods. Areas along the Yangtze River and Huai River have been particularly hard-hit. It is estimated that 32 million people across 26 provinces have been affected and 186 people were killed. About 280,000 hectares (700,000 acres) of cropland has been destroyed with damage estimates at US$5.73 billion. The country hasn't seen such bad floods since 1998. [W]
