Foxconn and Sharp are considering building an LCD plant in the United States following President-Elect Trump's call for companies to starting making things in America again, reports Nikkei.

Hon Hai Precision Industry and its Japanese subsidiary Sharp have begun studying the possibility of building a liquid crystal display panel plant in the U.S., a Sharp executive said Friday. The plan is "on the table," the executive said. "We will make a decision carefully."

Foxconn and SoftBank Group reportedly told Trump that they would would make significant investments in the U.S., creating new jobs, when SoftBank Chairman Masayoshi Son met with the President-elect last month. The investment plan was proposed by Son, according to a Sharp executive.

In December, an LCD maker owned by Hon Hai and Sharp announced that it would build a new LCD TV plant in Guangzhou, China for a cost of around $8.69 billion. A U.S. plant would cost around the same amount as it would entail constructing a similar facility.
