Apple has selected Wistron as the main OEM in India for its new iPhones that will launch later this year, according to a DigiTimes report.

Wistron has reportedly expanded its smartphone production capacity in Kunshan, China and India in preparation for making the device. Foxconn and others will become second OEMs if demand increases.

Notably, Foxconn was rumored to be building a $10 billion manufacturing plant in Maharashtra, India that would exclusively build Apple devices; however, it appears that for now Apple is partnering with Wistron. Last month, a report from the Times of India noted that Apple and Wistron were planning to set up a facility in Peenya, the industrial hub of Bengaluru to manufacture iPhones.

Apple was reportedly "very serious" about beginning assembly operations and then full manufacturing in India by the end of 2017.
