Uber is rolling out a new feature that makes it easy to request a ride for someone else.

When requesting a ride you can now specify that someone else will be riding. Using your contact book information, Uber will connect the driver and rider, sending a text to the rider's phone number with the driver's name, number, and a link that lets them track their progress on a map. The driver also sees the rider's name and will be able to contact them directly, although their phone number isn't directly shared with the driver.

“On the product team, we’re focused on making Uber accessible to everyone in the family, and on making people’s lives easier around the world,” says product manager Kyle Miller. “What we’ve learned through research is that at a macro level, people want an easy way to request a ride for a loved one. This was in particular a big request for riders internationally, whose loved ones maybe don’t have smartphones or good connectivity, with also a specific emphasis on seniors.”

The new feature starts rolling out the in the U.S. and 30 additional countries today including India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, and more.

You can download Uber from the App Store for free.
