An FCC filing recently discovered by zatznotfunny has revealed that Sonos is working on a new wireless smart speaker with far field voice recognition and support for multiple platforms and services.

The EUT is 802.11 a/b/g/n (HT20) Client Device. Product model S13 is a high-performance all-in-one wireless smart speaker and part of Sonos’ home sound system. S13 adds integrated voice control functionality with far field microphones. Moreover, the device will support multiple voice platforms and music services, allowing customers to effortlessly control their music on Sonos.

Sonos has already announced software integration with Alexa so it could expand its partnership with Amazon to include integrated hardware, similar to what Ecobee did with its new thermostat.

A good move for Sonos would be to offer users the ability to choose from multiple personal assistants like Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, or Cortana. However, it's unclear if the company has been able to reach the agreements necessary for such a move.
