Apple has extended the time you have to watch a movie rental once starting it to 48 hours in the United States.

The change was noted in an updated support document today...

New:
You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it. After you start watching the movie, you have 48 hours to finish it. You can watch the movie as often as you like until it expires.

Old:
You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it. After you start watching the movie, you have 24 hours (in the United States) or 48 hours (elsewhere) to finish it. You can watch the movie as often as you like until it expires.

In addition to the new lengthier rental period, users can now rent movies in 4K; however, as we noted earlier, 4K movies can only be streamed and not downloaded.
