Apple has pulled Telegram Messenger from the App Store for allegedly containing 'inappropriate content'.

Without warning, Telegram and Telegram X suddenly disappeared from the App Store yesterday. In a tweet today, CEO Pavel Durov explains why.

We were alerted by Apple that inappropriate content was made available to our users and both apps were taken off the App Store. Once we have protections in place we expect the apps to be back on the App Store.

Its unclear what type of protections Telegram has been required to implement; however, in its App Store Review Guidelines Apple says:

To prevent abuse, apps with user-generated content or social networking services must include:
● A method for filtering objectionable material from being posted to the app
● A mechanism to report offensive content and timely responses to concerns
● The ability to block abusive users from the service
● Published contact information so users can easily reach you

Hopefully, Telegram will return to the App Store soon.
