Early benchmarks for the new iPad Pro have surfaced on Geekbench revealing single-core and multi-core scores that are nearly as high as the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro!

On average the iPad8,8 scored 5020 in single-core performance and 18099 in multi-core performance. Compare that to the base model 15-inch 2.2GHz MacBook Pro at 4928 single-core and 21165 multi-core.

The iPad Pro features an A12X Bionic chip built on a seven-nanometer process. It has four performance cores and four efficiency cores for up to 35 percent faster single-core performance. A new performance controller enables simultaneous use of all eight cores for an up to 90 percent boost during multi-threaded tasks. The tablet also features a seven-core Apple-designed GPU which delivers up to twice the graphics performance.

It's widely rumored that Apple plans to transition from Intel processors to Apple-designed ARM-based processors. Recent reports have suggested that TSMC will begin to manufacture these chips in 2020 or 2021.
