A new report from Macotakara claims the next generation iPad mini will keep the same design as the current iPad mini 4 but get a faster processor and Apple Pencil support.

The site expects the iPad mini 5 to retain a Touch ID home button and be upgraded with either an A10 Fusion chip or an A10X Fusion chip.

The iPad mini 4's back mic position is the same with iPad Air 2, but iPad mini 5's back mic position changes to the center of the upper back as iPad (6th generation), and its aim is to lower its cost by the parts in common.

Notably, Apple Pencil support on the iPad mini 5 may be limited to the first generation Apple Pencil.

The difference between iPad (5th generation) and iPad (6th generation) is that Apple Pencil (1st generation) can be used in addition to the difference between A9 chip and A10 Fusion chip.

Apple is widely expected to unveil a new iPad mini and a new entry level 10-inch iPad this spring. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
