Nike Fit Uses iPhone and AR to Find Your Perfect Shoe Size

Nike has announced a new Nike Fit feature that uses AR and a smartphone to perfectly measure your foot size.

The scanning solution uses a proprietary combination of computer vision, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and recommendation algorithms. It does this by measuring the full shape of both feet, offering the ability to know your truly perfect fit for each Nike shoe style.

When shopping in the Nike app you'll be presented with a new option asking you to try Nike Fit when selecting your shoe size.

Using your smartphone’s camera, Nike Fit will scan your feet, collecting 13 data points mapping your foot morphology for both feet within a matter of seconds. This hyper-accurate scan of your unique foot dimension can then be stored in your NikePlus member profile and easily used for future shopping online and in-store.

Nike Fit will also be available to try in retail stores using a specially developed Nike Fit mat rather than a wall.

If you want to shop for family or friends, you can enter a guest mode that will allow you to also scan their feet. Nike Fit will be great for parents trying to figure out what size cleat, basketball shoe or runner your little one needs this time.

After scanning your foot using Nike Fit, you'll be offered a 'best fit for you' recommendation. This may be different depending on the shoe style. For example, if you go to purchase a Nike Cortez you'll see your size for that shoe. If you go to buy a Nike Air Zoom Pegasus you might see another size because a running shoe works best if its a little more snug.

Nike says that Nike Fit will improve how it designs, manufacturers, and sells shoes.

A more accurate fit can contribute to everything from less shipping and fewer returns to better performance. The ultimate goal is to, eventually, totally personalize product. No number, no gender, just your name and a custom-made pair of shoes.

Nike Fit will begin rolling out in July. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
