Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis and associates shared their expectations for the 2019 and 2020 iPhone models in an investor note today. Their predictions are based on meetings with suppliers during a trip to Asia earlier this month.

According to the analysts, this year's iPhones will have few design changes beyond additional rear camera lenses. As usual, production is set to ramp up in July and August.

Barclays says that 3D Touch will be eliminated from all 2019 iPhones, possibly in favor of Haptic Touch. Additionally, the next generation iPhone XR will reportedly get 4GB of RAM, up from 3GB.

Changes for 2020 are more substantial. The analysts expect 5G support, 3D sensing via the rear camera system, and acoustic fingerprint technology that could allow for full-screen Touch ID.

They've also heard rumors of a potential 'iPhone SE 2' with iPhone 8 internals for early 2020 but not all suppliers were familiar with the device.

As previously reported, LG may become a secondary supplier of OLED displays for the new iPhones, getting 10-30% of orders ahead of Apple's transition to all OLED displays by as early as 2020.

Apple is expected to unveil its new smartphones this fall. You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for more updates.
