Latest AirPods Pro Firmware Update Makes Noise Cancellation Worse [Report]

Apple's last AirPods Pro firmware update appears to have negatively impacted its active noise cancellation feature, reports Rtings.

After updating to Firmware [2C54], we retested the headphones and our results showed a fairly significant drop in isolation performance, primarily in the bass-range. This means that with ANC turned on, these headphones won't do nearly as good a job blocking out the low engine rumbles of planes or buses as they did before this update.

Apple released the 2C54 firmware on December 16th; however, the company has quietly pulled the update, suggesting that it's aware there's an issue.

The 2C54 isn't all bad. It does improve frequency response consistency and bass accuracy. Although, there's also a slight reduction in mid and treble accuracy.

You can check the firmware version of your AirPods Pro via the Settings > General > About > AirPods menu.

Apple's AirPods Pro retail for $249 but can often be found on sale at Amazon.
