Global notebook shipments could fall 29-36% in first quarter of 2020 due to supply constraints caused by the coronavirus, reports DigiTimes.

While notebook manufacturers are starting to return to production, components are running out.

Notebook ODMs have resumed their production in China, but face the possibility of a lack of components starting in March if their suppliers continue to be prevented from going to work by the coronavirus outbreak. Quanta Computer has started volume production at a new assembly plant in Taiwan to meet urgent needs from clients, but components shortages remain an issue.

The site says that inventories of many components will run out by the end of February as numerous suppliers are still waiting on government approval to reopen their plants.

Apple is rumored to be unveiling an update to the 13-inch MacBook Pro this quarter; however, it's unclear if its production will be affected.

Currently there are 71,449 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 1,775 related deaths.
