AT&T has announced that it's waiving home Internet data overages for customers amid the coronavirus outbreak.
"Many of our AT&T Internet customers already have unlimited home-Internet access, and we are waiving Internet data overages for the remaining customers," AT&T said in a statement provided to Ars Technica today.
For customers on 150GB, 250GB, and 1TB data caps, AT&T usually charges about $10 for each additional 50GB, up to a max of $100 or $200 per month.
Ars asked AT&T if it planned to relax data caps or speed limits on its cellular plans but hasn't received an answer yet.
Mediacom told Ars that it is "giving all customers on all service tiers 50GB of additional data through March 31" and that it will "revisit" the topic in April "to see if this policy needs to be extended or changed."
Comcast hasn't said whether it will suspend data caps for customers; however, it's increasing speeds from 15Mbps download/2Mbps upload to 25Mbps/3Mbps on its Internet Essentials offering for low-income Americans. It's also giving 60 days of free Interest Essentials to new customers.
A Comcast rep told Motherboard that "there were 'lots of conversations' currently going on in regards to getting ahead of the outbreak, but wasn't able to confirm whether a usage cap suspension would be part of the company's playbook."
AT&T also offers a service for qualifying limited-income households that costs $10/month.
